Today was one of those days that started out really crappy and has been slowly getting better ever since. Somehow I got something stuck in my eye last night and no matter what I did, it refused to come out. That doesn’t sound so bad on paper, but in reality it was excrutiatingly painful and very upsetting. Add an eight hour shift to that and you have my general state of mind this morning as I stood at my register, barely able to make eye contact with customers. Thankfully, my favorite manager was on duty today and she took pity on me and asked how I was doing. I explained and both she and several other cashiers tried to help me, suggesting names of doctors and possible eye drops I could use. On my first break I went outside to rest and enjoy the beautiful rainy day (thank you, remnants of Tropical Storm Fae) and by lucky chance caught up with my favorite Starbucks barrista. We got to hang out and he made a few suggestions that really helped me out and essentially solved my problems. Not to mention it was a lot of fun sitting out in the rain with him.
It took awhile but the saline solution I bought finally worked its magic and whatever got stuck in my eye dislodged itself and now I am back to my normal self. It’s a relief, let me tell you.
And now, I am happily tapping away on my laptop, spending entirely too much time on my Facecbook account and catching up with a friend I haven’t had the chance to talk to in far too long.
I love my new Ziggy, especially her pretty new webcam, which works very well with MSN. Everything has worked out nicely and it was really sweet to see how many of my coworkers cared about me and were eager to help me out when I needed a hand. It’s been awhile since I haven’t felt good at work and it’s amazing how quickly you can single out your friends from a crowd when you’re sick. I was surpised how many people around me actually gave a damn. Pleased, of course, but surprised. ^_^
All in all, now that the pain is done with and I’m back to normal, today has been very nice. Friends make all the difference and I am once again grateful that I have found so many so quickly, and that they stick by me when I need them.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to get back to organizing my iTunes library…
