adventure more

Word Count: Still zero… >.> I have an excuse though!! Lots of them, in fact. =P

So The Beau and I decided to go on a little adventure the other day, after I stepped out to get the mail and realized the weather was absolutely gorgeous. Thanks to Google Maps and their subsequent directions, we made our way into a part of town I had no idea about (despite living here over 7 years now and him only having been here two days) and found one of the most beautiful parks I’ve yet been too. It even had turtles! Naturally, of course, being a good adventurer, I had my camera at hand…

I present to you the following snapshots of our adventure in Adair Park, of Knoxville, TN. Enjoy!

Take a Look

This is why long load times in League of Legends are dangerous.

keep your promises

All right, blog-peoples. Now that the stats from yesterday’s blog post are done BLOWING MY MIND, (seriously! I’ve never gotten so many likes/follows before, and only gotten that many views for a post the Insatiable Booksluts linked to) I think I’m able to make another semi-coherent post now. No promises, though. It is me we’re talking about here.

Also, let me say hello and thank you to all the new followers. I know, I know, it’s boring when bloggers get all clingy and start shouting things like ‘OMG INTERNET FAME I LOVE YOU DON’T EVER LEEEEEEAVE ME’, but I can’t help it. I feel the urge to say hi. I feel the urge to be appreciative. Judge me as ye will.

OK. Now that that’s all out of the way…let’s get down to business.

♪ TO DEFEAT, THE SPAMMERRRRSS AND ALSO PLAY XIN ZHAO ♪

So, awhile ago, I wrote about my plans to get back into writing, mostly because I’ve spent about the last month thinking how much I would like to get back into writing. This time it wouldn’t really be for fame or oodles of money, even those things would definitely be nice and I wouldn’t turn them down if they were to arise. I think I mostly just want to get these damned stories out of my head. If they suck, then they suck. If they’re amazing, then they’re amazing. I don’t really care anymore. I just want to be able to go to sleep at night without at some point thinking, “Well what about this…” Also, a lot of these stories have been in my head for at least 5 years, sometimes longer. I feel like it’s far past time to do them justice, and I’m also a great believer in the idea that you must first clear away old projects before beginning with  new ones.

That being said, why is it so hard for me to sit down and put words onto paper?

Part of the reason is because a lot has been happening in my personal life lately (isn’t that always the way) and it’s been diverting my focus. But most of that has been settled now, so I feel like my excuses have run out. (And that’s exactly what they are) So! Since I know I’m never going to get anywhere if I don’t just sit down and write something, and because I suddenly seem to have a lot of people following my blog, I figure why not combine the two and use my tiny sprinkling of internet fame to help keep me honest.

As such, I am now introducing a word count meter. No fancy widget just yet, because I don’t know how to make one. This counter will now appear at the beginning of all future blog posts, regardless of what they are. (I may also make separate “word count” posts if I feel I’m in danger of abandoning my promise.) My goal is to have at least 5,000 words written by the end of this month.

Yes, I know, that goal may seem absolutely laughable to a lot of my writer friends, (and also anyone who’s ever participated in NaNoWriMo) but keep in mind that I haven’t done any fictional writing in over a year. (And also the month is already almost half over.) I am EXTREMELY rusty at this, and also I’m pretty frightened to pick up where I left off, even if I know it’s the right choice. So go easy on me. Remember that I have a lot of other projects taking up my time and attention, too.

I would also like to share a few chapters on this blog from time to time, even before they’re 100% finished. (I know that goes against many Writer Rules, but I don’t care. I want to. It’s fun.) I like the feedback one gets and I also think it will help keep me honest if people are expecting more snippets. Also, seeing people excited to read my work is a great motivator.

So yeah. If I don’t reach my goal for some reason, (unless it’s a really good reason, like maybe my house was struck by a meteorite) that’s where you guys step in. Throw stuff at me. Yell at me. Stamp your feet and spam my inbox with angry comments. Call me a loser in your own blog. Tweet abuse at me. Do whatever you feel like. Just make sure I know that I’m breaking a promise, and I’d better be damned sure that I’m willing to be That Person. That’s all I can ask. :)

Until next time, blog-peoples…

edit moar

What’s this? A motivational post about editing? Have I suddenly finished a book and need to talk about the horrible red slashes I’m drawing through my manuscript!? WHAT DOES IT MEAN????

It means I found a really funny picture and I wanted to share it with you all, especially if you, like me, are tired of the sappy, hipster-esque “love quotes” pictures you see now and again. They’re usually being posted by preteen girls on Tumblr who have all these feelings that they just have to express to the world about how hard their life is and how many emotions they’re having, like, right now.

Sorry. I was there once too. But thankfully I was smart enough to know that most people (if not all of them) didn’t give a crap about my bullshit.

So yeah. If you ever feel like being “deep” or “meaningful”…make sure I’m not standing nearby with a red pen, because I will totally do the following to your image/quotation/poem/whatever.

Enjoy!
